Which Cylinder Solution For Me?

Anti-Snap / Break- Secure Explained

Q.  Anti-Snap or Break-Secure - Which option is best for me?

A.  In a word - durability

If your requirement is for lock cylinders which only get used up to say 10 times a day for example, then Break-Secure cylinders are a good option. However if the locks are used heavily or with heavy handed use (eg on commercial/industrial premises) then Anti-Snap options will offer increased operational life expectancy and reliability.  This is because break-secure cylinders are designed to snap under attack, but unfortunately cannot tell the difference between attack or heavy handed/high usage.

Anti-Snap Cylinders
These cylinders are designed to resist snapping by featuring strength enhancement features e.g steel connection bars or laminates.
The British standard kite mark reference for anti-snap tested cylinders is British Standard 6EN1303:2005.

Snap or Break-Secure Cylinders

These cylinders all feature sacrificial points which are designed to break under attack. The cylinder then automatically goes into lock down mode, thus blocking any attempt by the burglar to unlock the door via the lock cylinder.

The British standard kite mark reference for break secure tested cylinders is British Standard TS007:3 Star. (1 star cylinders require 2 star additional protection)

The cylinder and door handle package must total at least 3 stars. BS:TS007- 3 star cylinders meet the BS requirement when used with any handles (1 star cylinders must be used in conjunction with either a 2 star cylinder guard or 2 star handle set).
